GPS-Based Tracking Ends Dangerous Carjacking
in Under an Hour

Use of GPS helps police avoid a high speed pursuit

VANCOUVER, BC, April 17, 2007 – Guardian Mobile Monitoring Systems (Guardian) announced today that a GPS tracking device supplied by Guardian, and sold and serviced by Nero Global Tracking (Nero), was instrumental in assisting the Vancouver Police Department to recover a stolen vehicle in less than one hour, while avoiding
a dangerous high-speed chase.

On the night of March 16, 2007, a security vehicle that was stolen from downtown Vancouver and driven at speeds approaching 180 km per hour through Vancouver streets, was ultimately stopped and recovered and the suspect apprehended by the Vancouver Police. Police were able to quickly and safely put a stop to this dangerous situation because the stolen vehicle was equipped with a GPS-based tracking device supplied by Nero Global Tracking, which utilizes Guardian Mobile Monitoring Systems’ GPS tracking technology.

The vehicle was stolen from Primcorp Security. Iris Lee-Tan, Primcorp’s Business Manager, stated “We were able to track and trace the vehicle's location instantly. After an hour, the police recovered the vehicle safely without any injury to anyone and without requiring a high speed chase.  This technology has saved us the stress, effort, money and loss in the recovery process. This device and its supporting systems have indeed given us peace of mind in keeping our employees and assets safe.”

“Not only was the vehicle tracked in real time during the incident, but a historical report was easily provided to the Vancouver Police Department detailing location right down to street address and the speed of the vehicle throughout the one-hour ordeal” stated David Katz, President and CEO of Nero Global Tracking.

Nero Global Tracking is also the pioneer of the nationally acclaimed Bait Bike program, partnering with many police departments and universities in both Canada and the United States, including the Victoria Police and the University of Toronto Police.

“We are proud to have provided the technology platform that aided in this dangerous recovery and arrest,” commented John Tedesco, President and CEO of Guardian Mobile Monitoring Systems Inc. “A vehicle is stolen every 3 minutes in Canada, costing individuals and businesses billions of dollars each year. We believe that the continued use of GPS technology in vehicles and assets will be a significant contributor to reducing losses from theft.”

Utilizing advanced GPS and wireless technologies combined with a powerful web-based software application, Guardian’s platform enables companies like Nero Global Tracking to offer a range of valuable security and productivity solutions.
